Dusted off Raft and started a new playthrough. For all it’s upolished and unforgiving nature, it’s a good game.

I know that and I’m happy that there is so much to choose from these days, simply because distribution isn’t a big issue anymore. The indie scene has never been in a better place.
It’s a nostalgia thing. Plus, I’m against the whole “exclusivity” thing. And a bunch of other reasons, but it hardly matters.
Sometimes you just need to vent your disappointment, you know?
Completely unrelated.
That id software is now owned by Microsoft pisses me off way more than it should. I was already iffy when they were acquired by Zenimax.
And there’s literally no one left of the original crew at this point.
I think I’m done with Doom, Wolfenstein and all that.
Rant over and sorry. It all just dawned on me when I saw the post.
Might have helped a bit both before and during Koticks rampage.
A bit late, but good for them.
Im not a Console player, but I’m pretty sure whatever hardware you’re using should be able to outlast the Cheeto-man’s final term.
Working in entertainment is privileged. It’s not a job you just happen to end up with by accident. Most people are there because they want to be there.
And yes, the shitty mega corporations will use that against you. And yes, again, your small indie company can get purchased and suddenly your boss is the shitty mega corp. But you have a choice even then. Try to get out on your own terms or stick around until it’s time to cut the fat and get fired.
You can think I’m a dick all you want. I have my principles and I live by them. I have taken jobs most people don’t even know exist, because they can’t even imagine themselves in a position that would ever warrant something like it. And I’ve quit jobs for less than how game developers get treated. I don’t care what I do, I care about who I work for and how they treat the people around them.
We probably all have our own factors that go into determining whether or not someone deserves our sympathies.
And there’s definitely some circumstances where I’m more understanding. Like, Ubisoft as you mentioned. I have zero relation to their products nor the company it self. They’ve never really been on my radar. So I can’t speak to that.
But then we have something like Microsoft. A giant among giants in the corporate world. You don’t become a 3 trillion dollar company by playing by the book. And I understand why people would want MS on their resume, but I can’t understand wanting to work for them.
But that’s just a part of my little black book. I imagine you have your own, most people do.
Even the Devs out of a job isn’t necessarily something you should concern yourself too much with.
Games development is a fairly privileged job to have and for the Devs working for big dubious companies…? Let’s not pretend like they didn’t know who they worked for, what they worked on and what the personal risks attached were.
Just played through OneShot.
Very good little game. I did take a bit of fiddling to get to work properly in Linux, but worth it.
The weird thing being that all the American gun-nuts have been yammering about their second amendment rights for so long and why it’s important that they get to have as close to military issue weaponry as possible at home.
Well, boys & girls… What’s happening in your government right now, might literally be the reason for the second amendments exesisting.
The problem with dictators is that people tend to vote them into office themselves, without realizing it. And then fail to dispose of them again, for the same reason.
Well, it’s player based isn’t it?
The whole “Playability Theough Proton” rating system is based on player feedback, or at least that’s what I thought.
I would never hold off on playing a game for a remake/remaster.
I love my oldies.
Ahh, that headline title could have been more clearly written then.
Was Stalker supposed to be like Far Cry?
Am I missing something?
Our officials have had it in their heads for a while that the American Model was something to strive for.
And as a consequence, they’ve screwed up a few public services over the years. Non of them have gone away, luckily. But it has caused some problems here and there.
Depends on what is meant by “Influential”. Are we talking within the industry or among players?
Because, as much as I hate to say it, World of Warcraft pretty much revolutionized the industry. From the live-service, massive multiplayer format to every nasty type of monetization model we’ve seen in almost every big title since.
I see how it’s different. And I’m not making excuses for anyone.
If anything, I’m saying I can understand where it’s coming from. But that doesn’t mean I’m onboard with it all.
The cost of developing games hasn’t skyrocketed. Developers have more means than ever. Many things that was handcrafted on crappy slow computers then are auto-generated in seconds now.
There’s no massive shipping costs or printing of physical mediums anymore. And no losses if the already printed cassettes or CD’s didn’t sell.
If a game costs hundreds of millions to develop, in this day and age, it’s by design and/or because of bloated companies.
