This AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D review tests the new AMD X3D CPU from Zen 5 against the prior AMD R7 7800X3D CPU, the 5700X3D and 5800X3D from the AM4 era, and Intel's Ultra 9 285K, Ultra 7 265K and Ultra 5 245K CPUs, plus the 14900K. We have dozens of CPUs benchmarked for this comparison of some of the best CPUs out in 2024, with a heavy focus on the 9800X3D vs. 7800X3D for gaming PC builds. The coverage also talks differences between the 7800X3D and 9800X3D, thermals, efficiency, and value. The 9800X3D's release date is November 7, 2024, with an MSRP of $480, which puts it against the 7800X3D, 14900K, and 285K or 265K for immediate competition, with alternatives outside of gaming (such as mixed use PCs or workstation computers) such as the 7950X and 9950X.

Probably not that new, at least including manufacturing emissions.
Best I’m willing to guess without research is “newer than mid-1990s,” since I’m pretty sure those are outperformed by <1W microcontrollers these days.
