A lot of times, when people discuss the phenomenon of employers ending work-from-home and try to make their employees come back to the office, people say that the motivation is to raise real estate prices.

I don’t follow the logic at all. How would doing this benefit an employer in any way?

Two things you have to consider are leases and contracts. Many of these companies don’t own their buildings, and are contracted to continue renting them for X number of years. Businesses that allowed WFH during the pandemic many times had to eat that cost.

Personally I’m of the mindset that upper management saw this and said we need to get people back in office to make our investment worthwhile instead of trying to amend the contract or renegotiate to not have to rent the building anymore.
