Authorities in Moscow have banned billboards containing QR codes after allies of jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny used the matrix barcodes to conceal their newly launched anti-Putin campaign ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Navalny on Thursday urged supporters to vote for any candidate besides Vladimir Putin during the race, which is scheduled to take place on March 15-17. On Friday, the 71-year-old Putin officially announced his bid to run for a fifth term.
I use Binary Eye now, no ads, free and open source. It is built on zxing. I was a bit pissed when zxing scanner stopped working a few years ago. All the alternatives where ad infested crap back then.
Thanks for the recommendation! Yeah I can’t stand the ad infested barcode readers now. I’ve actually considered buying a dedicated Bluetooth barcode reader.
Barcodes that can accept text (Besides QR):
Most Barcode scanners included in Android and iOS can’t read them though. I know at least for Data Matrix, only a few scanners can handle them.
I hate that the OG barcode scanner doesn’t work on my pixel anymore.
