Hi folks, I’m thinking of streaming or making videos about Mineclone since I like it a lot. But I’m unsure if the textures I use will get me in hot water. I am helping with a Minecraft-like texture pack (NS-Textures) and using that normally since I dont like changes in visuals. I own Minecraft but mojang probably wont like if i stream (on twitch, youtube, peertube or whatever) or make videos with them. Anyone got takedowns or other experience with this? Legal perspective would be best but no illusion that a random lawyer is in this community.
Bonus Questions: How much would I have to alter the textures to be safe and would making them high res instead of minecrafts low res any difference?
Thanks for reading and have a great day! :)
Dont know any of that, but i like default textures and think they are better than minecrafts anyway so i dont see real reason to change them, but also if you want to use custom textures i would sugest not to use them from episode 1. It would be better to make 3 episodes with default game look and feel, and after that you can bring in custom staf and mods but just clerefy that to audience. At the bigining of the video say i installed some mods and texture packs, list is in description, so people know what you are doing. Because someone who is watching gameplay and dont know the game will think that its default look and will be confused when it installes the game and its different than yours…
Thanks for the suggestion. I‘ll think about it.
If viewers (children) will confuse it with Minecraft, there’s a problem. If you make it VERY clear that you are not playing minecraft, then it should be fine.
Okay! Thanks for the comment! Can you elaborate on why thats the problematic part?
Plagiarism.
If it looks like minecraft, but has more features, the user can get upset when they buy it and it’s missing expected features.
If it looks like minecraft and it plays awful, users will tell other people how awful minecraft is, preventing sales of it.
