Who’s arguing for peaceful protest here? And why is the binary of “peaceful/not peaceful” important to you? Are you trying to make the point that protests aren’t valid or effective unless they’re “peaceful?”

So, like, you’re wrong, but there’s a lot of nuance here.

1. Pitbulls, if raised well, can be some of the sweetest and most sociable dogs around.
2. They’re still bred for fighting and violence and no matter how friendly a pitbull is, the owners still need to be very careful around strangers, kids, and unfamiliar dogs.
3. In the end, humans made pitbulls, and I think that gives us a responsibility to both take care of the pitbulls that exist and also not breed any more. Like a lot of dog breeds, humans have bred them to be miserable or dangerous for petty, dumb and selfish purposes. Maybe the smartest and most compassionate thing to do is to let the breeds expire while making sure the living are as happy, healthy and safe as possible.

I don’t think a backyard breeder would say “well, crap, the shelter can’t take older pitties, guess I won’t breed them.” They’re probably in it for money and clout, and they’ll find a way to get rid of unwanted dogs one way or another.

This is my experience. It’s fading with time. There are certain situational triggers, and sometimes out-of-the blue cravings, but they become less frequent and easier to ignore, slowly, as time goes on.
