Accessibility:
Audio: Mediocre Automatic Subtitles, some meaning is lost in gibberish transcriptions
Cognitive: The pace and content may be too much for some people. The Video can be slowed down 0.5, 0.75 speeds, and much of the video could still be enjoyed without audio or subtitles, though some of the meaning may be lost.
[I’m a human volunteer trying to make to internet easier to navigate for people with disabilities. You can do the same too!]
Why would I spend money on proprietary software that tracks me and sells my data when it’s trivially easy for me to set up a FOSS alternative and actually own the video files myself.
I’m not rich, in fact I’m under the poverty line, even 5$ a month adds up for me. I see no reason to pay to be tracked.
I would still pirate — but most normie pirates wouldn’t.
I think “illegals” is just as dehumanising as “illegal aliens”. And what the government uses is kind of irrelevant to that, governments have a long history of labelling marginalised groups with dehumanising terms.
I think “undocumented migrants” or “unofficial migrants” or “people without residency” etc would be better.
Is “illegals” supposed to be “people without permits”?
I’m a bit suprised to see that phrasing used on lemmy, it’s incredibly dehumanising.
No wonder no one trusts the news when they make clickbait headliens like this
I hate to be that guy, but our society is based upon a capitalist system, where people are rewarded for ruthlessness and competition — not collaboration, solidarity, or respect.
Because we as a society blame the victims more than the perpetrators.
Yep. Case in point, the most underfunded disease per disease burden at the NIH, affects 75% women (ME/CFS).
ME/CFS costs the economy billions every year and disables hundreds of thousands of Americans so bad they lose their jobs, yet male pattern baldness gets more NIH funding…
Yep. It’s kind of annoying when people see everything through an “english” lense and assume anything that isn’t made to work for english speakers won’t work…
Sorry I forgot it was paywalled. Here ya go: https://archive.is/Kab9U
Also they used GPT2 and GPT3 which was dumb and said stupid shit, so it was funny.
Now AI is boring.
It’s a corporate built frontend for a decentralised FOSS messaging protocol (Matrix) that has activitypub federation
Yes finding the right instance on peertube is a nightmare — and also the general lack of quality content, or subtitling, which makes it as good as useless for deaf people like me.
The difference is signal has millions of users and most people have already maybe heard of it.
Apparently it makes a good RSS feed aggregator if nothing else.
Here’s a link you can use to share this post with your friends. The default share link makes you have to click to see the picture and many users will be confused and not click it.
Welcome back! Lemmy’s a decent amount better than it was a year and a half ago :)
