Hi, there!

💆

I was born in 1989, so I am an ancient grandpa and demand respect for my lawn. (/s ya right like I own a house)

(P.s. I am not a sexy hairy ripped daddy bear, but I do own a cat named Tammy 🐈‍⬛)

  • i live in a really great location for getting onto a bunch of different highways. because of this, ubers circle the area because they are closer to more things. it shows you the ubers in the area, and I will see like 8 or 9 going in circles, waiting. so i select the “wait and save” option on the app, because it’s 3 dollars less and figure the wait won’t be long because demand is low and there are plenty of drivers. nope. it literally just enabled a timer that didn’t put my order through until it was over. it wasn’t giving me a deal for being flexible with my pickup time, it was CHARGING ME 3$ just to have the privilege of them not withholding my service order arbitrarily.

fuck uber man that made me so mad

  • i saw a great explanation how it was made in a documentary i can never track down again cuz the internet is terrible now. it’s been a long time since I saw it, but the idea was they basically wrote letters on the page using some form of stencil to give the “illusion” of real, unknown words as opposed to strings of random letters. they recreated a little and it looked essentially the same. throw some illustrations of plants and stars in there, and bam you get to sell people a mystical mysterious book of knowledge

  • i turn off upscaling and enable dedicated fullscreen immediately, and then i get mad if the game cant run well without it. it literally NEVER looks better. the edges are ugly, frame rate stutters, things look patchy cross hatched, weirdness, i hate it.

Clair Obscur (amazing) is the most recent offender. all the default settings it chose for my computer made it run like crap AND look ugly. disabled ai upscaling and enabled dedicated fullscreen, and the game looks beautiful and runs like butter on my aging 3070.

i have no idea why the industry started making these the default settings but i wish they would stop.

I don’t consider ray tracing to be in the same category as these other technologies, though. ray tracing can look fantastic as long as it doesn’t kill the frame rate.

  • subnautica 1 was one of the best games i ever played. below zero was like a less good, James Cameron version of subnautica 1 that sorta forgot it was a survival craft game and focused more on the cinematic experience. subnautica 2…looks full blown James Cameron movie. it literally looks like the scenes underwater in Avatar 2. subnautica 1 was not great because it had aliens or a neat sci fi plot. those were neat extras. it was cool because the nature of the game itself required you to carve your OWN story through the way you chose to survive and progress. the world was your world, not a set piece for a stage play. subnautica 2, from what I’ve seen so far, looks to have completely lost what i first loved about the game. i know the original creator of the concept has long been gone from the development team, and it frankly bums me out how they’ve altered the original vision.

I’m sure it’ll be hugely successful, though. looks like something made for YouTubers more than someone who wants to pick up rocks for 3 hours off the sea floor.

  • i already know how to cut an avocado, i was saying these directions are not great at the one specific area people have trouble with, the pit removal. the graphic and instructions do not help and are confusing unless you already understand the method. “firmly embed the blade into the pit by hitting it downward with your palm, then twist the pit out once it’s attached to the knife” is more in line with what they need to hear. not “wack knife with heel of palm and twist” with a photo of a knife simply hovering above an avocado. if you don’t already know what to do, this is not helpful.
