Something as powerful as an M3 at the very least could be used as a folding@home client. Other suggestions would be a rendering farm machine, a retro emulator for higher end consoles like PS3+, or part of a carputer since it’s got GPS and is quite efficient.

Can’t speak much on that, but I can tell you that I worked on the computer of someone who used high contrast settings to help them see the screen better and after visiting 3 or 4 major websites it was clear most don’t account for background gui changes and will use less code rather than forcing it, which leads to white on white or black on black text. Part of why I was there was it was getting worse, and so they got a 55" TV as a monitor, which allowed them to go back to standard windows appearance and avoid all the nonsense.

I believe you’re thinking of a ToS change where the wording was incredibly vague, leading to some outlets to claim they were selling browsing data to 3rd parties and AI modelers. They changed it right after to specify that the data they were using wasn’t browsing data, and the data they did gather wouldn’t be used for AI. They are not as invasive as google, but you’re subject to Google on Firefox because of the ubiquity of their telemetry and search optimizations across websites. Firefox with an add-on such as noscript is much better than Chrome still, in my opinion. At the very least, it’s nice to have a browser that doesn’t work to undermine its own add-on functionalities.

Probably more fair to go with standard enterprise drives like Exos or ultrastar

In my line of work, if third party is free and works just fine with no downsides we don’t continue pursuing a better option or we’d go insane.

At work we do a lot of transfers between android and iPhone and vice versa. We use Verizon Content Transfer installed on both phones because it plays nice between brands and offers bluetooth/wifi transfer reliably. Verizon affiliation not required.

Forgiveness is always possible, although if someone hits me with DARVO, I’m going to forever filter their behavior through a check before helping them. It’s sorta amazing what we can go through and forgive after, but I guess the misnomer is that the apology is for them and not ourselves.

Do you have a source for AMD chips being especially energy efficient? I don’t consider them to be even close. M3 is 190 cinebench points per watt whereas Ryzen 7 7840U is 100. My ppw data doesn’t contain snapdragon x yet, but it’s generally considered to be a multithreading king on the market and it runs as signifcantly lower tdp than AMD. SoCs are inherently more energy efficient. My memory of why is the instruction sets on x86 allow for more complicated process but ARM is hard restricted to using less complicated processes as building blocks if complexity is required.

Like I mentioned though, there are tasks that x86 cannot be beat on but it’s because they use ASICs on-chip for hardware accelerated encoding/decoding and nothing is more efficient at a task than a (purpose-built, task specific*) ASIC /FPGA.

Dell is already releasing Qualcomm SoC Latitudes. There are bound to be compatibility issues, but performance wise it’s kinda undeniable that this is where the market is going. It is far more energy efficient than an Intel or AMD x86 CPU and holds up just fine. The main downsides you’ll see could likely be resolved with ASICs, which is how Intel keeps 4k video from being choppy on low end APUs for example. Compared to M4, Qualcomm’s offering is slightly better at multithreaded performance and slightly worse at single thread. The real downside to them is really the reliance on raw throughput for tasks that both brands of CPUs have purpose built daughter chips for.

Presumably the president saying that it’s going to use the entire federal executive to boost a single failing company’s shortcomings is good for buyer confidence. At this point it should be nationalized for as much money has been handed to that company from our pockets.

I use them as well. I wish there was a better agregator though, Walmart passes their check, but treat their employees and suppliers like dirt.
