I’m not particularly excited about this upcoming dumpster fire…Already took it off my Wishlist.

Just a dude on the internet, looking for content and fun! I love Linux, gaming, writing, reading, music, anime, walks, and occasionally movies too. Chronically ill and anxious too, that makes life quite interesting…At times.

LostWanderer@fedia.ioto Videos@lemmy.world•The Forgotten Prehistoric War That Killed 95% Of All Men12·3 days agoThe video itself looks like slop with a bad title…However, there is an article that is discussing a theory researchers came up with: Something Weird Happened to Men 7,000 Years Ago, And We Finally Know Why this article provides a link to this paper: Cultural hitchhiking and competition between patrilineal kin groups explain the post-Neolithic Y-chromosome bottleneck
We’ll never know the real cause, as there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding these types of finds in human DNA; the definitive evidence has long been lost to the ravages of time. At best there is room for speculation and no concrete answer to be found.

LostWanderer@fedia.ioto Technology@lemmy.world•AI is learning to lie, scheme, and threaten its creators during stress-testing scenarios3·4 days agoA fool is ever eager to give their money to that which doesn’t work as intended. Provided the surrounding image provides a mystique or resonates with their internal vision of what an ‘AI’ is. It’s pure marketing on their part, Anthropic believes that any press is good press. It makes investors drool over a refined AI, even though, Apple themselves have proven it through their many technical papers current AI is merely ‘smoke and mirrors’ however…For some odd reason, they are still developing their ‘Apple Intelligence’. They are huffing farts just as much as Anthropic is, they have to constantly pull stunts to gaslight their investors into believing that ‘AI’ is going to become a viable product that will make money. Or allow them to get rid of human workers, so their bottom line looks flush (spoiler alert, they have to rehire people, as AI can’t do many of the things a live person with training can).
There reason why this shit is shoved in everything is because it doesn’t have good general use cases and the collection of usage data from people. Most people don’t give money to AI companies, only those who have drank the Kool-Aid do, as they are hope-posting and gaslighting people into believing the current or future capabilities of ‘AI’. LLMs are really great at specific things, collating fine-tuned databases and making them highly searchable by specialists in a field. However, as always the techbros always want to do too much, they need to make a ‘wonder tool’ that inevitably fails and then these lying techbros need to quickly figure out the next scam.
LostWanderer@fedia.ioto Technology@lemmy.world•AI is learning to lie, scheme, and threaten its creators during stress-testing scenarios112·5 days agoAnother Anthropic stunt…It doesn’t have a mind or soul, it’s just an LLM, manipulated into this outcome by the engineers.
I’ve always had a stove top kettle, there was no reason to boil water in the microwave for tea. Up until a few years ago, I did not have a microwave. I prefer the even temperature of water boiled in a kettle.
LostWanderer@fedia.ioto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you use autocorect on your devices? Why or why not?3·5 days agoI do! Being reasonably accurate as possible when typing is something that I value! It helps, as sometimes I am a goose on the loose, and don’t proofread my sentences before posting. The obvious errors are at least caught before they become final.
I mostly have problems with the Discover Store not letting me download themes, it will crash out hard! I haven’t noticed many more issues outside of that on KDE 6.4.
LostWanderer@fedia.ioto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's up with the sudden increase in AI slop?264·6 days agoThey are flooding the zone, there are countless pro-AI generated content instances. It’s like playing whack-a-mole, I often downvote obvious and human-altered slop (it’s all slop to me). Unfortunately, there are going to be images that have positive votes despite the general dislike of said AI-slop, especially because I tend to block those slop instances these days. Naturally, most of it is objectifying women (something I don’t want to see anyway) so those will naturally get a lot of votes because people weren’t thinking with the right head.
Whimsical
LostWanderer@fedia.ioto Games@lemmy.world•Rare's Everwild canceled amid layoffs at Xbox Game Studios7·10 days agoMore bad news from Xbox, I was hoping they’d cut Phil Spencer lose instead…They need a brand-new lead to make Xbox awesome again. I can’t say that I am surprised, though, as this game has been in dev for 7 years. However, there should’ve been something that could be salvaged and made into a viable game.

Yeah, it’s total clickbait, but I didn’t think it would be bare minimum decent to include actual information (admittedly too late at the end). I couldn’t be bothered to give them the view, I ended up hiding the source channel because it was pumping out a lot of slop and clickbait.
