I hear you. My last phone was an ancient Xperia from about eight years ago–but I finally needed to get a new one. I love most everything Sony is doing with the Xperia series, and I would have gotten another. But the update guarantee was so abysmal I just couldn’t do it. So now I have a Pixel which I think is worst in design in a lot of ways. But at least it will be updated. (And can run GrapheneOS).
I love the Sony phones. If they sold the Xperia 5 V in my market (or even if the global version was compatible with my carrier’s G5 bands . . . ) I would probably buy it in a second. They seem to be deliberately betting on only releasing the 1 V in some wealthier markets though (likely because the 5 V would undercut demand) – but I refuse to spend 1 V prices with only a couple years of guaranteed updates.
Sony phones though are by far my favourite on the market these days, and it’s a shame that they aren’t more popular (or have enough developer interest to have LineageOS support).

Initially I was going to dismiss it as a cool pet project for someone but not really likely to get any traction given the competition in the space–but there are a lot of people who are going to learn Lua as their first language through things like Roblox and other games, so I could actually see it grow as people who already know Lua move out of games and are looking for speed with familiar syntax.
That said, not for me. There are plenty of other languages out there I’m more likely to reach for.
