I’m very, very happy with the 9800X3D, so you can save yourself a bit of cash there to put towards the GPU. With a fast modern CPU like that, you might even consider an Intel B580 to relieve that GPU bottleneck.

Yikes. How do you handle it - try not to think about it, stay out of the house? Dark humour and fucked up jokes? Do you interact with her much? Any opinions on her?
Edit: sorry haha I know this isn’t an AMA 😅

voracitude@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How to prove art was not made using AI ?1·2 months agoOh, I see, you took my comment as directed at OP. Not so. As mentioned there is a strong current of anti-AI sentiment on Lemmy, and it’s often in the vein of “there’s no soul” etc. I was taking aim at that in the context of OP’s comment (because it raises an excellent point), not OP themselves.
voracitude@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How to prove art was not made using AI ?1·2 months agoAm I, indeed? In my view, either AI art is nothing like human art in which case it’s easy to distinguish, or it’s similar enough that it’s not easy to distinguish, in which case it’s got to be at least very similar.
There’s no middle ground here, you can’t logically hold the belief they’re obviously fundamentally different but hard to distinguish from one another.
If you disagree with that and want me to agree with you, you’re gonna have to tell me why it’s wrong. Sorry, I don’t just change my mind at “nuh-uh” 🤷

Is it? I thought we could just look for the soul and/or intention in the art? Because as everyone on Lemmy knows and is always saying, AI art isn’t art because it lacks both soul and intention. Therefore, it should be easy to tell it apart from real proper human art. Shouldn’t it?

It was my first “dream” PC build (I got a 9800 X3D in there too), so this follows a period of great anxiety about making such a huge purchase with all the techtubers saying “do not buy!” even back then. The relief I’m feeling at having made a defensible decision is honestly palpable 😅
Straight representation isn’t a “thing of the past”, it’s alive and well. If you’re going to attempt a straw man fallacy your going to have to twist my words without breaking the meaning.
That’s ridiculous. For decades it was nothing but straight representation and now there’s a few with anything different you complain that you feel underrepresented? Much strong, very alpha, “real man”.
voracitude@lemmy.worldto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 cards now sit on shelves as gamers reject $3,719 priceEnglish16·2 months agoMan, I snagged a 7900 XTX for $900 out the door last year and I feel very clever for not waiting to see how the 50 series turned out. I cannot believe there are GPUs on sale for damn near $4k, it’s insanity.
If you want “straight representation”, you’ve had your pick of games with that for over four decades, arguably five.
People don’t get mad because you “point it out”, they get mad because you’re wrong and too smug to see it.
It’d be a Pyrrhic victory, no question. Real “I’ll break your fists with my face” energy.
voracitude@lemmy.worldto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Stellaris 4.0 'Phoenix' game-changing update due May 5 with the BioGenesis ExpansionEnglish5·2 months agoTake the following with a boulder of salt as I haven’t even finished a single campaign yet, but:
I’ve found it a lot slower than even most of the 4X games I’ve played. It seems much more story- and exploration-focused than Master of Orion or anything like Starcraft; there are a great many cool things to find on the map. Diplomacy is your main path to victory, military conquest seems almost discouraged. To actually conquer worlds you invade, you have to assert a claim beforehand. Simply flooding the system with troops and ships and killing everything that isn’t your empire doesn’t work for some reason.
It was fine, but I don’t think I really understand it. If you’re after recommendations, though, do you like The Expanse? You might like Starsector, if yes and you haven’t played it.

I think you might be mistaking generic plastic gloss for polish, though. AI writing is so formulaic, it’s like looking at a repeating texture in a video game. It writes lyrics like a five year old, too - very simple, entirely conventional, no creativity. Nothing new.
