It tries so hard to be deep and shocking, but it completely falls flat. And Gainsbourg’s acting is awful in all of them.

Melancholia might have a few redeeming qualities, particularly that Von Trier wasn’t trying to be too much of an edge lord with the story. But it’s still a snoozefest.
