A Toronto court sentenced a Canadian man to life imprisonment in a deadly stabbing attack at a massage parlor, in a landmark case that saw a Canadian judge designating an incel-inspired crime as terrorism for the first time.

The defendant, Oguzhan Sert, carried out his February 2020 attack “after extensively researching the incel culture,” Justice Sukhail Akhtar said Tuesday, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. “He sought it out, he accepted it and he acted upon it,” the judge said, adding that he did not believe Sert’s claims that he was brainwashed by the ideology.

I’m still in shock that the incel thing has gotten so far. I don’t remember the first time I saw the term, but for the longest time I thought it was just a dumb word for guys who “can’t seem to get any”, or were too depressed to try.

It’s been really intriguing, and equally depressing, watching the word actually start to mean something so tangible, that use of the term in a court room is appropriate at all even.

Do not dare search the term “tradwife”. Even though my new wife and I have an extraordinarily traditional marriage, it ain’t what these incels want.

Learned about this yesterday and the glimpses I got of the videos in the article made me queasy.

Made a post on lemmy yesterday if anyone wants a look.

For the longest time i thought it was just a circlejerk/satire community

I actually found a lot of the memes and terminology really hilarious. I had no idea these people were actually deranged
