    The National Guard.

Other states also have a Military Dept, but everyone just calls it the national guard.

This one isn’t texas. If you remember back to the bush election and it’s various bullshits, his service was in the “texas national guard.” I’d bet the reporting agency is just using the easiest translation/word that will be recognized for multiple markets.

Calling it the “department of military” or “department of military affairs” is not uncommon. It’s the most common name states use to group the various guard and veteran affairs organizations.

When I say most people call it the national guard, I’m referring to the press and public.
