Radley Balko’s masterful evisceration of Coleman Hughes’s piss poor stab at being A Great American Truth Teller
So. going to preface this with… I’m a manager for contract security, and I work in Minneapolis; and was downtown during the riots.
Chauvin is a pig that absolutely was guilty of murdering Floyd.
but the retconning doesn’t surprise me at all. I remember one random guy ranting eloquently about how Gov. Walz was… uh… not condemning the riots… pointing to a tweet that was literally saying the exact opposite of what the guy said.
(shout out to Giant Affro Guy who was roller skating down Washington Ave in full on 70’s disco clothes. I hope you know I was staring because of how awesome that was.)
Balko is the first of two writers who shaped my journey from conservative to anarchist. His writing in this series is clear, concise and damning.
That said I’m also something if a Hughes fan. I typically find him thoughtful and insightful, but his buy-in to the Fall of Minneapolis documentary was disappointing.

I, too, am a fan of a black guy who went to private school and then Columbia telling everyone that race should always be ignored.
I am a great admirer of the people who pull up the rope after they’ve climbed the wall and let all the others get eaten by the tigers.
You must really love Clarence Thomas.
Love him? No. That has to do with who he is as a man.
Love the fact that a black man who grew up poor was able to take advantage of programs to help poor black people due to their systemic mistreatment and rise to that level of power? Absolutely.
I wonder why you brought up Clarence Thomas and not Thurgood Marshall?

Seemed like sarcasm to me and Clarence is all about pulling the rope up behind him.
Sorry, your reply was also meant as sarcasm? My apologies.
Although I think Thomas (and what he tries to destroy) is exactly why Hughes is wrong. And why conservatives like him should be glad he’s wrong due to their getting Clarence Thomas because of trying to address systemic racism even in small ways.

This notion of a “color blind society” boasts the same flaws inherent within notions like “being non-judgmental”. There are many ways to define these terms, some of which are more sane and functional than others
I’m heartened that Hughes is providing a counter-balance to Ibram X Kendy. He’s also prone to some getting up on stale bandwagons, most glaringly his championing the absurd notion of a colorblind society. He may be an heir Larry Elder in the making, but he’s sure as hell not shaping up to be a Stanley Crouch-esque force of nature
If only this would be read by people that believe Hughes. Unfortunately, he’s preaching to the choir
