Tesla is the only one doing camera-only self driving, so there’s no point in delineating the two. Lidar you can expect from any other brand, so it’s a token choice in this instance, especially for an engineering entertainment video.

Basically, they aren’t hurting yet.
Exactly. You could reduce their wealth by a factor of 1000, and they would still have more than 90% of people. They will never be genuinely hurt by losses. Not like 99% of people would be.
The chart shouldn’t make anyone happy. The true horror of it should be realized; in reality it’s an accounting of how much they’re “spending” money to make money. They will continue to make more. The scales here are unfathomable to most people.
It’s borderline misinformation to not include their total wealth for context.
August27th@lemmy.cato Linux@programming.dev•Am in the only one who cringes at install instructions that require piping some curl output into bash?6·4 months agoit is detectable […] server side, if you download the script [vs] pipe it into a shell
I presume you mean if you download the script in a browser, vs using curl to retrieve it, where presumably you are piping it to a shell. Because yeah, the user agent is going to reveal which tool downloaded it, of course. You can use curl to simply retrieve the file without executing it though.
Or are you suggesting that curl makes something different in its request to the server for the file, depending on whether it is saving the file to disk vs streaming it to a pipe?
Please report back on the weird look you get. 😂

August27th@lemmy.cato No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is OCR for handwritten content still that bad?11·5 months agoHow else do you write them?
In a single (but not smooth) stroke, like how one would write a (mirrored) h, but where you would end the h normally, you connect it back to the bottom of the stem instead.
I learned cursive
That’s even weirder that you’d do ol for d then. I’d expect you to do a single stroke o, starting at the right hand side, but upon completing the o, continue straight up to make the stem of the d.
IMO a hallmark of messy writing should be the shortcuts taken to reduce the amount of lifts of the stylus for efficiency’s sake. You need to improve the efficiency of your sloppiness, to make things worse so it gets better 😂

We may see yet another bump by this time next year.

August27th@lemmy.cato Ask Science@lemmy.world•What sound frequencies might improve evaporation in 3d printing filaments?English3·7 months agoHere is something I remember from 2 decades ago.
https://www.npr.org/2004/04/28/1861434/ben-jerrys-uses-sound-to-chill-ice-cream
They used sound to make standing waves that created areas of hot and cold, then somehow ejected the hot, keeping the cold. You’d just keep the hot and eject the cold instead.
Unless you are going to do something like Ben and Jerry’s though, all you are going to be doing with your speaker idea, as far as I can see, is to try to induce friction heat via vibration, and possibly move air around. There are easier ways to make heat than that. You may also create mechanical fatigue in the material moving it back and forth so much in the attempt to make heat, which may negatively impact the performance of the material.
As for ultrasonic humidifiers, they work by exploiting water’s ability to cavitate, as it is a liquid. If you can get plastic to cavitate somehow and emit only water vapor, without destroying the filament, that would be impressive!
A resistive heater is probably going to be a more effective means of drying filament. Personally I would just get an air fryer and run it in dehydrate mode, if I wanted to use a consumer device in an alternate manner
What a world when you have to mod chip your bed.
IIRC this concept was predicted in Gates’ book “The Road Ahead” … in 1995.

Attractive nuisance much? Is it too much to ask that they should have to label it a garbage generator instead of “AI”? Why does honesty always have to take a back seat?

I can’t have any caffeine after noon, for instance, or else my sleep is fucked.
Other folks on here have already made the Xanax-anxiety connection for you, so I think it’s relevant to point out that in some people, caffeine is an anxiogenic, just saying.
I hope you find better sleep even if this is a dead end.
I am having flashbacks to the scene in Idiocracy where the doctor is talking about his wife.
