Ibaudia@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your last-minute purchases before tariff hell begins?English4·3 months agoMight upgrade to a Pixel 8 from my current Pixel 6. I want to get security updates until at least the end of this administration.
Ibaudia@lemmy.worldto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•What If We Made Advertising Illegal?English23·3 months agoAdvertising is too big of an industry to ever be banned. It also keeps lots of other sectors on life support, like sports and free online content. It’s also extremely important to keep services like search engines free. Unless we transition away from capitalism ads are pretty much mandatory to keep the economy afloat. I agree they suck though. uBlock Origin until I die.
Ibaudia@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are you permanently banned off reddit? or do you just like lemmy more?English1·3 months agoI like lemmy more because it feels like I get more interaction when I post here. Smaller communities are just better for meaningful discussion.

Brave is Chromium-based. Realistically though, all web browsers come with compromises, and internet anonymity is virtually impossible without unrealistic amounts of effort.

Ibaudia@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Netflix has closed its AAA gaming studioEnglish36·9 months agoFor those saying they didn’t know about this, it’s because they never actually released anything. They got shut down unexpectedly before they finished any projects. Allegedly there are still some in-development games based on Netflix properties that will still be released on their gaming service, and the service itself will stay up. It’s just the studio itself that was shut down.
Ibaudia@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Netflix has closed its AAA gaming studioEnglish3·9 months agoNot really AAA at all, no.
Ibaudia@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do shows on streaming platforms waste time with "previously on" recaps?English4·9 months agoI imagine it’s to pad runtime.
Ibaudia@lemmy.worldto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Most gamers prefer single-player games [teenagers prefer Online PvP tho]21·9 months agoI enjoy pvp games that I’m talented at. If I’m not good at something I tend to get down when I keep losing. Pvp is just really hard and bottles that feeling of helplessness.

Ibaudia@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Smart TVs take snapshots of what you watch multiple times per secondEnglish1·10 months agoSmart TVs are designed to surveil you, a media center PC can be used however you want. Flash Linux and run Jellyfin and torrent everything through a VPN, then nothing can track you.
Ibaudia@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Smart TVs take snapshots of what you watch multiple times per secondEnglish4·10 months agoYep, it was my personal, password-protected network. Either someone reconnected it (unlikely, I live with my gf who doesn’t use the TV) or it just cached the password until it decided to spy on my again 🙃
Ibaudia@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Smart TVs take snapshots of what you watch multiple times per secondEnglish15·10 months agoI have definitely had to forget networks, then have them connect to that network weeks later at random, then having to forget the network again. Don’t know how that’s legal.
Ibaudia@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Smart TVs take snapshots of what you watch multiple times per secondEnglish514·10 months agoDo not connect your Smart TVs to network people, seriously. Just a bad idea. Use a media center PC or some other device that allows you to stream content, and make sure the TV itself is just a big monitor, nothing more.
Ibaudia@lemmy.worldto Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•I don't mind paying for YouTube Premium.English32·10 months agoI would be fine with it if it were a privacy-respecting platform that was subscription-based first and foremost, then had an ad-supported tier as well, but unfortunately it’s owned by Google so they’re collecting untold troves of data even from paid subscribers and that’s the actual product for them.
And when you point that out to the AI, those code snippets get replaced with even more spaghetti that is maybe 1% closer to actually working, at best. Been there!

Ibaudia@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Ublock origin + firefox is no longer working for blocking ads on youtube?English16·10 months agoSometimes you have to clear the cache and update the lists manually to fix it.
If anyone finds this, the solution I ended up going with was to just make it a part of a startup bash script and put it in the file system of the ISO so it runs on login for every user. Couldn’t figure out how to put it in the preseed.
