Advertising itself is Still Allowed, but not in a Way That Secretly Tracks Everyone’s Behavior.English12·8 days agoThis is a win for everyone in Europe, and possibly beyond. [Emphasis mine.] Companies may no longer secretly track your behavior based on “consent” given under pressure. Hopefully, this will not only put an end to these dubious practices, but also to those pesky cookie banners.
But we’re not there yet. Regulators have ruled the system illegal, and the court’s ruling has now confirmed it. Still, the companies making billions from this model won’t stop on their own. That’s why European regulators must now truly step up: enforce the law and make sure these companies actually comply.
Regulators try not to get compromised by lobbyists when billions of dollars are at stake.
I sincerely wish you good luck.

One possibility: you didn’t cultivate your relationships as well as you thought. A lot of guys sink all of their “intimate relationship energy” into their partner, instead of spreading some out to friends and family members.
Maybe your ex ran a successful long-term hit campaign on you. That would fit with the cheating and the emotional abuse.
Maybe it’s due to the period of life that your friends are in. If everyone’s in their early 30s, they’re probably dealing with climate change, economic stress, children, etc. Doesn’t leave a lot of emotional bandwidth for someone you don’t already have deep ties with.
Maybe it’s a broader cultural thing. Guys tend to get the short end of the stick in general with breakups. We still don’t teach boys and men to explicitly emotionally support each other. We still don’t, as a society, emotionally support boys and men in general. Single dads get custody far less often, etc etc.
I’m not blaming you or exonerating you. Your situation sucks and knowing all the possible whys and wherefores probably won’t help you as much as figuring out what to do next.

I didn’t mean to come off that way.
All of the Jewish people I’ve met had some kind of on-purpose connection to Israel, like family members who lived there, or a community-sponsored coming-of-age trip, etc.
My having family deployed is the closest thing I have to that kind of personal connection to a place in the middle of a war, but I expected your experience to be different from mine.
Yes, but that would only work if her group chat friends also use Signal.
Which likely isn’t going to happen unless all of their friends also use Signal.

However, this does not necessarily mean federation is off the table, possible avenues are:
- Implement our own federation protocol
- Implement a promising up and coming federation protocol, polyproto
- Implement the Matrix protocol (unlikely, obtuse and unstable)
- Implement the XMPP protocol (battle-tested and stable)

If enough people had gotten to know the toddler that the ritual of a funeral would be comforting and connecting for them, I would have a funeral.
If the toddler only really made a mark on one or both of the parents, I would have a small, more intimate ceremony instead.
If the toddler hasn’t yet made its mark on anyone yet, then the funeral serves no one.
Okay, but how does that lead to defying gravity?
For the people like me who forgot what sealioning means.
