Man, I stopped doing shots decades ago - if the stuff is good I can sip it, if it’s not good enough to sip what the hell am I even doing with my life? Decent alcoholic drinks are way too tasty to destroy my liver with bad ones.

That said, sipping instead of drinking it in one go doesn’t prevent me from getting it in the wrong pipe …

There are some tasty shots out there where I wish I could order a full glass. Dropshot is one of them

I definitely sipped on the shots of complimentary fruit brandy or liqueur that’s often served in balkan restaurants. Just because it’s served in a shot glass doesn’t mean you can’t sip it!

If you do 8 hours a day 10k hours is just ~3.5 years.

So pretty much everyone with over 5 years on a job can say they’re a master in it.

How much time does one spend actually drinking?

If you really simplify a lot of the math, and even make fairly slow estimates on imbiption rates as ~1oz/sec, and assume everyone needs and is actually getting the old 8 16oz glasses a day, you get 10000 hours of ‘practice’ happening over 281250 days, or ~770.54 years.

What if we add the time you might take savoring wine, whisky etc.? I suppose swallowing is separate from swishing it around in your mouth, but I definitely managed to get some in the wrong pipe in the ‘swishing around’ stage more than once …

Even if you include an hour of ‘oral fluid handling practice’ every day, that’s 9656 days, or 26.4 years. Much more possible in a human lifespan, but that’s a lot of swishing.

I have something called Vocal Chord Dysfunction wherein this just happens when I breathe.

I need to see an ENT about it I just haven’t gotten around to it.
