The developers of hit PS5 exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 say Miles Morales is the “main” Spider-Man from now on, which has caused some fans to speculate about what Insomniac may do with the inevitable Spider-Man 3.

Miles is the protagonist of easily the best super hero films since The Incredibles. Into The Spider-Verse is a universally acclaimed masterpiece. I don’t think Insomniac need any luck; Miles is pretty popular already.

Miles is absolutely established as a hero of his own merit and right. Thats not a question. He absolutely stands shoulder to shoulder with parker.

But does he pass parker? Can he surpass what a lot of people consider to be the best marvel super hero, in his own costume and title? I dunno, Im not sure on that.

This might also be a generational question. Ask a kid, they might answer Miles. Ask a millennial or older who grew up with Parker primarily, likely a different answer

            That’s a very interesting answer!

It is however true Miles hasn’t really appeared in the MCU (for teenagers and adults) nor is it made to be the main character in “Spidey and his amazing friends” kid TV series (though he’s well featured).

I suppose the Spider verse movies are good at making Miles Morales even more popular and can turn the perception, but new generations still get to see an awful lot of Peter.

That’s true, but this isn’t about the comics. I still haven’t beaten SM2, but it does obvious that they are heading towards Miles being the main SM going forward. He’s really going through an evolution arc while Peter is going through a real rough patch.

Oh, please, stop with the “gamer” generalizations. Every time there’s a “gamer” SNAFU it’s really a tiny minority of hyper-conservative wankers making a lot of noise. They make the death threats, they do the review bombing, they express the bigoted views. Gamers are a huge and diverse crowd. Don’t generalize the bad behavior of a handful of shitheads to the entire hobby group.

I dunno, when it comes to the “gamer moment” meltdowns over this game, I haven’t seen them related to Miles, he seems to be pretty well-liked. I’ve mainly seen them over MJ’s design. Not saying I agree, just saying what I’ve observed.

Being older I’ve really only known Parker as Spider-Man, don’t even think I’ve watched any animated with Morales yet. The Miles Morales game kinda felt like a Gen-Z Parker to me, in the way they updated to a younger character but almost all of his dialogue felt like it could come from Parker though of course their personal situation and known people are different. I was a bit hesitant on the change at first (harder to take change sometimes heh) but at about halfway through Miles Morales game now I feel quite satisfied with how the cutscenes and story have played out, he feels like a good successor to the hero. I’m sure many people have had similar reactions over the years, especially between gold-silver age comic choices. I’ve always known multiple Flash characters (once I started watching more animated shows) so this isn’t much different.

Genuine question for the homies who have played Spider-Man 2: did they write Miles to be any more interesting? I liked Spider-Man 1 Peter’s dialogue and jokes, like, a lot. I enjoyed playing as Miles in his own game, but I thought the character was boring, just, so so boring. Especially in contrast to Spiderverse’s version of Miles. I haven’t bought 2 yet, is Miles more fun to listen to this time? Could I enjoy Spider-Man 3 as a full Miles game if I thought that the Spider-Man: Miles Morales game had a disappointing protagonist?

I really enjoy the character of miles he is just such a nice wholesome kid . I really enjoyed him in spiderman 2 but his story wasn’t that deep . With the end of spiderman 2 I don’t think there is much more they can do with Peter . So there is lots of room to expand on miles .

I’m not finished with the game yet, but I’m a decent chunk into it.

They have really focused on his development more. In a way they’re copying the normal Spiderman story (how to cope with balancing being a super hero versus having a regular life) but they’re changing it a little bit by having him deal with emotions and plot points from the Miles Morales spin-off. And he’s also balancing Pete who is going through the classic symbiote stuff.

I’d consider him a more interesting Spider-Man than the last game, but his regular life development isn’t any more interesting. But I’m probably about half to 2/3 through the game so that could change.

Of course they are. Peter Parker is a straight white male, and that is not an acceptable protagonist in 2023. I could see the writing on the wall when the first game came out.

You do realize Peter Parker and Miles Morales are different people, right? So that really just leaves you with the argument that you’re mad because the focus has been shifted to a black character.

Next you’ll tell me you’re mad that Gwen Stacy has blonde hair lmao.

Why are you playing dumb? That’s how franchises work, thats how comics work, they switch actors and characters all the time. You pissed at Dr. Who? What about Batman? Some of those movies completely rework the character/backstory.

This happens all. the. time. without much worry at all. The only difference this time is that a minority group is getting the spotlight for like five fucking minutes while a bunch of idiots whine about it.

What about Batman? He was rebooted many times but he was always Bruce Wayne? Same as Superman and Spider-man? James Bond was also rebooted many times but he was always the same James Bond. What are you talking about? Making stuff up … You making me look bad cause minorities and all that shit when I never said I had the problem with Miles being black. I would also have a problem if they replaced Peter with another white guy because the color of the skin is not relevant, it’s that Spider-man will always be Peter Parker and that’s it. Go make Miles an original superhero and I would love him the same as Peter …

I fully realize how worthless a conversation this is, but it’s funny to see you reach for any reason to remain hateful.

People that acted as Batman at one time or another who were not Bruce Wayne:

Dick Grayson, Terry McGinnis, Damian Wayne (Bruce’s son), Azrael (thanks Zoolander, you really are more than really really good looking)

People that acted as Superman at one time or another who were not Clark kent:

Zod (fun one), Harvey Dent (really though), Kal Kent, Lex Luther (another fun one), Jon Kent, Conner Kent, Val-zod, Kenan Kong, Kal-el, Calvin Ellis

People who acted as Iron Man, who were not Tony Stark:

Weasel Willis, Mary Jane Watson, Ultron, Iron Lad, Pepper Potts, Norman Osborn, James Rhodes,

People who acted as Captain America who were not Steve Rogers:

Bucky Barnes, Danielle Cage, Sam Wilson, Misty Knight, John Walker, Peggy Carter,

I feel like that’s good enough. You think you got me with 007, but that’s based off of novels and not comics/sci-fi. And either way, clearly you’re ignorant to how fictional media functions, specifically relating to comic super-heroes.

No. He was dead numerous times and other people took up the mantle. Most notable Dick Grayson.

I don’t know how it is in the games, but in the comics he was originally someone who lived in the same world as the old Spider-Man and took up the mantle. Peter Parker wasn’t replaced as a character, he was just dead.
