So it’s printed on plastic, how’s that for dissipating heat?
We can already make processors pretty small, and we could make them in a lot of different form factors, but heat management is probably the trickiest part.

Someone should put words to Nirvana songs. I always thought it would be cool if some of those songs conveyed some sort of message.
I have anecdotal evidence that people get misinformation from tiktok.
My son in law (who unfortunately lives with us, but that’s another rant) was telling me about a third assassination plot against Donald Trump. He wanted to show me this tiktok with the news. I was able to inform him that these rumors weren’t accurate, and he quickly confirmed that.
But I only knew to question his assertion because i’d already seen news here on Lemmy that there were debunked rumors of another assassination plot. That is to say, Lemmy never pushed the tumor as news, but rather only reported about the already debunked rumors continuing to circulate. The disinformation continuing to spread was the interesting news on Lemmy.
General population: I do agree with you. They’d be looking at the next shiney new celebrity scandal or whatever.
I’m not sure I even believe that. I mean look how much generative AI is dominating the conversation, despite being garbage. I think aliens would have a similar ability to dominate conversation, even for the general public.
If nothing else developed from the talks, then yes.
But if it started a new conversation with academics, if it opened trade opportunities, if it brought meaningful new technology, it would dominate world discussion for decades.
But if it was a single message sent at the speed of light and we had to wait 50 years for our reply to get back to them, and then 50 more years to hear any more communication…
Yeah, nobody’s going to remember that happened.
More spiderman it is!
Alright people, we’re making 5 new Spider-Man films, let’s get to work!
Fun fact, a group of pedants is called a flem. To use it in a sentence: “the party was ruined by a flem of pedants”.
The headline should read:
Despite best efforts and all odds, ISPs find themselves on the right side of history.
Those now saying 5 to 10 years are VC backed startups.
It’s scientists and engineers saying it, it may also be VCs, but 5-10 is the official line from engineers.
The bottom line is this, maybe one of these startups or smaller reactor designs will work, you never know. But at the end of the day, ITER is scheduled to be completed in 2034, and at that scale, it will be net energy positive, there’s no doubt.
As a parent I say this about my kids all the time.
“And then he threw a tantrum because it was time to go, you know the exact thing I warned him about 5 minutes prior, and 15 minutes before that. Sorry, not sorry.”
The term you’re looking for is crowdsourcing.
Honestly, I think we’re getting really very close! We’ve been in this cycle of eternally “30 years away”. These days we’re in a cycle of “5-10 years away”. That sounds like a joke, but we really are closing in.
Now that said, while we can eventually get fusion to work, it will absolutely not solve all of our energy problems. Once it’s actually possible, it will still be the most expensive source of energy available. Which means once we can do it, we won’t actually want to do it.
Heh, well I can make it worse, prepare to be judged!
Soda is for suckers. It’s just extremely overpriced sugar water and it’s basically a direct route to diabetes town. Also enjoy all the extra dental work you’ll require.
Weirdly, I’m not against alcohol. While drinking a lot isn’t a great idea either, I do understand the appeal of alcohol. I still try not to buy it in bars or restaurants though, the 5x mark up has always felt unreasonable.
Uh… If you insist, then four space indent. There is no “two space” indent.
But just use tab. Ugh… Monsters…
I’ve got a couple of 23 year old homeless people living with me now. They just need a couple months to find a place for themselves, that’s what they said a year and a half ago when they moved in. I’m trying to help them out, but they really can’t stay here forever.
Also one of them is my daughter.
Hospitals are practically faraday cages, it can be hard to get a signal in large hospitals.
But a text message that amounts to just a few bits can usually sneak through without much delay.
For most people they won’t need anything more than a 7800x3d for 5 maybe even 10 years?
I know from experience, it is very difficult to get 10 years of gaming out of a processor. I’m a pretty frugal guy, and I’m actually ok with merely “acceptable” gaming performance, but I think the most I’ve ever managed was 8 years on the same processor, and that was with the core 2 duo. I called it the super chip, the chip that stayed competitive even when multiple new architectures were available. And honestly, 8 years was really pretty good. But when I switched to a quad core i5, it was definitely a necessary change.
Or compare to the CO2 put out by global concrete construction. It’s more than some might believe.
My understanding is that black holes naturally evaporate, releasing energy and sometimes matter out through their polar jets. I believe this is called hawking radiation. Now proton sized black holes can exist (I believe we’ve created them in the LHC), but at that size, the hawking radiation makes the black hole evaporate extremely quickly, like within nano seconds.
In other words, tiny black holes are very short lived, they rarely have time to absorb more material and grow.
