“We’ve got now three humans with Neuralinks implanted and they’re all working well,” Musk said

I thought the first one had more or less stopped working.

I’m pretty sure the opposite is what’s true. The neural links degrade over time and the implant loses the ability to function.

That’s not true at all, that guy even wants a second one implanted for even more functionality, and he’s extremely happy with it.

a bunch of threads retracted but it still works, plus it seems they fixed that for future ones

edit: guys look i know elon musk bad but these are really the facts http://youtube.com/watch?v=Xlv4biIY6JI

I agree until there’s at least open source software to run them. I would not want anything to do with it. Honestly, though, I would prefer both open source hardware and software for this if at all possible.

I haven’t been following this and didn’t see any mention in the article, what makes you say it can control your body? The only applications I’ve seen mentioned read from the body to control external devices, and manipulating the brain/body (with precision) would be a much harder problem I’d think.

The experiments they did in pigs they where literaly controlling the body of the pig to make it walk.

Its a hard problem that they have already solved using AI (machine learning but u gotta get the buzzword in there). I would be far more inclined to get one if it was provably single direction only tho.

Musk has a history of “saying” things, and presenting mundane advancements that have already been achieved as things he invented.

I mean you could just read an article if you’re guna ask questions like that lol. They have 2 studies open with the FDA:

“The Prime Study, designed for an estimated five patients, allows paralyzed patients to control external devices such as computers or smartphones with their minds. A second study, Convoy, is designed for three patients, and allows them to control devices such as assistive robotic arms.”
